Smart solutions for cosy living

When I initially bought a new build 2 bed house, all I heard was 'you'll grow out of it', ' kids need their space', 'where will your store all your stuff 'etc. A lot of negative comments unfortunately. Okay some of those comments are true, some are not. I've adjusted my living to suit the house and I see the advantages.

The biggest is obviously the smaller mortgage, I'm not stressed to change job, I enjoy my holidays without worrying and I actively to take more holidays because I really do believe that is when memories are made and the experiences are what kids remember and what make them grow and take risks.

The secret to small house success: built-in and extra storage

The number one game-changer for any small home is smart storage.I try to think beyond the usual and embrace built-in solutions that seamlessly integrate into your living space. From custom shelving around doorways to beds with hidden compartments, built-in furniture can dramatically increase your storage capacity without sacrificing precious floor space. Additionally, clever add-on storage units, like vertical shelving or under-bed drawers can be useful

Spare bed sheets should be stored in the room where they're kept and needed. Hairbrushes and toothbrushes can be used quickly in the downstairs bathroom before heading out the door.

A drop zone is key for keys, coats, shoes etc

Top three tips for living big in a small home

Living in a small house doesn't mean sacrificing comfort or functionality. Heres my top three essential tips to help you thrive:

1. Maximise storage: This is paramount. Utilise every nook and cranny. Look for furniture with hidden storage, use vertical space with tall shelves, and invest in clever organisers.
2. A place for everything: Assign a specific home for every item you own. This reduces clutter and makes tidying up a breeze. Regularly declutter to ensure you're only keeping what you truly need and love.
3. Create a drop zone near the door: This simple trick can prevent everyday items like keys, bags, and mail from accumulating on surfaces. A small console table, hooks, or a basket near your entrance can make a huge difference.
